![]() Isaac has gone from a mute engineer called in to fix a spaceship that it turns out has been overrun with fiendish undead monstrosities to becoming a talkative “engineer” who is apparently the only man who can save the galaxy from fiendish undead monstrosities AND religious nutjobs who believe that all Human kind should aspire to become fiendish undead monstrosities. The Dead Space franchise has become a lot like the Die Hard franchise, insofar as you will begin each game wondering how the hell one man (in this case Isaac Clarke) can have this bad a day more than once. And while Dead Space 3 will be nowhere near my game of the year, it was certainly…interesting. Luckily summer has been a vacuum of big good game releases so I’ve been able to go back and play some of the games that I’ve missed from early 2013 in this period, right before the shitstorm starts up again at the end of this month (Splinter Cell, XCOM and Saints Row are being released on the same day for fucks sake). I use the metaphor of a minigun because it was a highly stressful period when I was barely able to finish a game and allow my wallet to recuperate before the next big game that I had to have right now came along. However as any gamer may remember the beginning of 2013 was a maelstrom of great game releases in rapid succession, like the games industry loaded all their big games into a minigun and fired them all at us. Seeing as how Dead Space 3 came out all the way back in February this What I Thought has traveled well beyond the realms of fashionably late. ![]() It feels inherently old school, and bygone tactics like shotguns and snipers still pay off in dividends. Incredible immersion with the DualSense’s haptics and triggersīlack Ops Cold War’s multiplayer mode is certainly the best part of the package, given the addictive nature of its back to basics style. ![]() A smaller, more refined arsenal of weapons. This year’s multiplayer offering goes back to basics, for the better.Unfortunately, the late-game twists of the Cold War campaign were a predictable retread of old ground, but at the very least, they allowed for some mind-bending architectural feats that really made the most of the graphical power of the next-gen consoles. It looks fantastic too, especially at 60 fps in 4K on the PS5, with our old friend ray tracing working its lighting magic on the slick streets of Stasi-infested East Germany. It was enough to make us break out a notepad, which is always a treat in a modern AAA game, where puzzles are usually liquidated. There’s enough variety in the mission locations and gameplay to keep you interested, and we enjoyed the fact you could collect evidence in the essential missions to complete optional puzzles that further contextualize the clandestine narrative. It’s propaganda, but at least the 80s soundtrack is cool, and it doesn’t drag on too long, clocking in at around six hours. Expect gruesome takedowns, rockets blowing up beautiful villages, cheesy mission codenames and helicopters exploding while you’re in them. There are some standout missions where the game flips the script and slows down the pace to create Hitman-esque stealth sequences, but the whole thing boils down into a popcorn action-movie of questionable ethics. I can see this leading to scouting and scout-hunting becoming a lot more important, especially in multiplayer. Smaller, more agile field guns can be told to manually attack any spot of ground in their range even without vision, so merely letting your enemy get a quick peek at where your 88 is deployed can put it in great danger. The next phase has you set up the chonky 88mm, but also highlights its weaknesses when enemy artillery zeroes in on you and you're forced to reposition it in the middle of a battle. ![]() DAK infantry can also ride tanks into battle, which is an excellent mobility option that doesn't rely on vulnerable trucks or halftracks, and allows you to bring a repair squad with you wherever you go. But I found it particularly useful if I just needed to keep a Panzer III topped up on health between enemy waves, or an ambush by anti-tank infantry required some emergency maintenance when I didn't have anyone truly qualified nearby. They're much slower at it than a dedicated engineer squad, using whatever scrap, spit, and tape happens to be lying around. This battle philosophy is exemplified by the fact that even basic DAK infantry have the ability to repair vehicles. They're well-adapted to the harsh conditions they've been forced to fight in, and have a strong focus on improvised tactics and getting battered armor back into the fight. ![]() If the German forces in Italy are an expensive pocket watch, the North African troops are a potato clock you put together with whatever was on hand and you're hoping it will still run after you've dragged it through a couple of sand dunes and maybe an artillery barrage. The DAK seems designed almost as a direct counterpoint to the polished, precise, carefully-orchestrated Wehrmacht. ![]() Pro's: Extremely powerful application good interface for prosĬon's: Too complex for casual use not quite complete for high-end useĬonclusion: Worth a try, but most people may find another product more suited to their needs and budget.Vegas Pro is a video editor suite made for professionals that are looking to create high-quality videos. While you may save some money buying this, it could be a false economy. It's also not quite as smooth to use as some industry standard rivals and is missing a few features available elsewhere. For example, there are very occasional crashes that would be bearable in consumer use, but won't be acceptable for those working commercially. ![]() With this in mind, expectations inevitably become higher and that's where Sony Vegas Pro starts to fall a little short. ![]() Although there are some useful interactive tutorials, the sheer volume of on-screen options is likely to be offputting for anyone without a decent level of experience of editing to professional standards. Overall, Sony Vegas Pro is very much aimed at the professional end of the market. There's also an excellent on-screen display system that can be easily customised to fit in with your preferred method of working and the particular tools and clips you have open at any time. It takes a comprehensive approach, not only working with footage from dedicated 3D cameras, but allowing users to work with 2D clips via a stereoscopic effect. The big selling point of Sony Vegas Pro is the introduction of 3D support. The problem is that most users will fall into two camps, those who want the absolute best, and those who want the cheapest decent option, and this product falls into neither category. The features it has work well, and there's not really anything inherently wrong with it. Sony Vegas Pro is a victim not of production but of positioning. Now on to the actual questions! The prologue mission that introduces you to the game its mechanics is easy compared to what you’ll be doing in the campaign, but it’s been a long time since there’s been a Company of Heroes game, so I appreciate the way Relic eases players in. Company of Heroes 3 is full of bright colors and dark tones, and Relic really pushes the series forward in several meaningful ways that is wholly exciting. With the introduction of a dynamic campaign map where every decision and strategic element is left up to you, and the establishment of tactical pausing, there’s a deep and rewarding game that awaits you.
